We're back!

Hey Dallas!

Before we jump into this week’s plans, I wanted to take a moment to speak from the heart.

I’m sorry I’ve been gone for so long. After Ubbi Dubbi, my father went missing and was later found dead on April 30th. His death is still under investigation, and this has been the deepest, most painful thing I have ever had to process.

My father and I were not close in the end because of boundaries I had to create, but that does not erase the love, the history, or the impact he had on my life. He was the man who inspired me the most, pushed me to be myself, and was always one of my biggest supporters. Losing him has been extremely grueling in ways I don’t fully have words for yet.

There is a lot I cannot explain, and there are pieces of this that I am not ready or able to share. What I can say is that this loss has changed me. It has pushed me to keep bettering myself, to pour more effort into my passions, to keep showing up for the things that make me feel alive, and to continue this lifelong adventure — even through grief.

I also want to gently acknowledge the heaviness surrounding the festival community right now, especially after the devastating reports from Electric Forest this year. My heart goes out to every person affected, especially in relation to the tragic investigation involving the neonate found on festival grounds. Sending deep condolences to those impacted and even triggered by that heartbreaking situation.

As a community, we also have to be honest: large-scale festivals are massive environments where a lot can happen, and the reason these situations feel so loud right now is because some of them are tied to very serious investigations in the public eye.

These moments are not normal, and they are not what festival culture is built on.

Our community does not support actions that lead to harm, negligence, or irresponsibility. Whether we are talking about personal safety, substance use, mental health, pregnancy, medical emergencies, or looking out for the people around us, there is a responsibility that comes with being part of these spaces. Harm reduction matters.

Knowing what you are taking, understanding your limits, asking for help, and protecting the people around you matters. Festivals should be places of music, connection, healing, and freedom — not places where people feel alone in crisis.

I’ve taken time to step back, grieve, and take care of myself. There may be future breaks too, and I’m learning to be okay with that. DFW Groove Guide is my passion project. I love creating this, I love this community, and I love the friends and supporters I’ve made along the way. But during seasons like this, it is important for me to pause so I can protect my mental health, be present with my family, care for my animals, and love on the people closest to me.

Thank you to everyone who has given me space, checked on me behind the scenes, respected my privacy, and continued to support me through one of the hardest chapters of my life. Your kindness has meant more than you know.

I’m so happy to be back, even while I’m still figuring out what my new normal looks like. Thank you for being here with me.

Now, let’s get back into the rhythm. Here’s what’s happening in DFW this week.
